The Black Rose is run completely by volunteers. Our organization only exists because of the time and energy put in by our volunteers. If you enjoy our concerts, jams, classes, and other events, won’t you consider giving back some time and energy? You can apply by email at:

Here are some current volunteering opportunities:

Our current president, Paul McCann, will be leaving us in April after almost 10 years as a board member, treasurer, vice president, and president. We’re looking for president/vice president candidates with leadership experience. If you appreciate what the Black Rose gives to our community, and you have the background and desire to lead us into the future, we’d love to talk with you. This is a very unusual opportunity to help nuture a cherished community tradition. (These two positions might involve joining as board members before subsequently moving into executive leadership.)

The Black Rose is governed by a board of directors that consists of up to 9 members. Our board members are assigned specific areas of responsibility, depending on their skills and preferences. This is an opportunity to learn about the music industry, non-profit management, and working with a great team of like-minded folks. To be effective, board members should attend most of our shows and most monthly 2-hour board meetings.

We offer a spring and a fall semester of music classes each year. We’re looking for a new board member whose area of responsibility will be serving as the board’s liaison to our class manager and instructors. The position offers the opportunity to shape our music school into the future, as well as contributing to the evolution of the organization as a whole. To be effective, board members should attend most of our shows and most monthly 2-hour board meetings.

We produce an event postcard for our members and other interested folks 6 times each year. We use a printing/mailing service to get our cards to folks on our mailing list. This position involves content collection and layout tasks, which amount to 3-4 hours every other month.

If you’re comfortable speaking in front of and energizing an audience, we’d love to talk with you about becoming a Black Rose emcee. We have a number of emcees, so you don’t have to be at all our shows. You also don’t have to have a stand-up act, just an affable, positive personality. We’ll supply most of the words. You just supply the personality!
