The Black Rose Acoustic Society

For over 30 years, The Black Rose Acoustic Society has been the home of live, handmade acoustic music in the Pikes Peak Region. We host twice-monthly concerts, jams, and classes through the year. Nestled in the tall Colorado pines, the down-home atmosphere of our log-cabin concert hall provides a family-oriented setting unsurpassed in friendliness and congeniality.

Russell Thornberry and Kenny Thacker

TICKET LINK

Russell Thornberry played the southern coffeehouse circuit in the early ‘60s, joined the New Christy Minstrels in 1964, and a year later launched his solo career. On a week’s vacation to western Canada, he was offered a singer-songwriter album contract with MCA Records as well as an opportunity to host his own weekly music television program. Russell had several #1 hits in Canada and won numerous BMI music awards for songs he had written. The rest of the story was his meeting Sharleen Gibson, also a traveling musician, and they married in November of 1969.

Kenny Thacker is a gifted storyteller, songwriter, guitar player, and soulful singer who was raised in a holler in eastern Kentucky. He experienced a simple, rural mountain life, spending hours picking with friends and family on the front porch, which ultimately led to numerous appearances and recording projects. Kenny has been echoing the songs and stories of home around the world for over 50 years, including venues such as the Grand Ole Opry and the World Famous Station Inn, and has shared the stage with such artists as Alison Krauss, Amy Grant, and Vince Gill.
