The Black Rose Acoustic Society

For over 30 years, The Black Rose Acoustic Society has been the home of live, handmade acoustic music in the Pikes Peak Region. We host twice-monthly concerts, jams, and classes through the year. Nestled in the tall Colorado pines, the down-home atmosphere of our log-cabin concert hall provides a family-oriented setting unsurpassed in friendliness and congeniality.

Bonnie & Taylor Sims

  • The Black Rose Acoustic Society 12530 Black Forest Road Colorado Springs, CO, 80908 United States (map)

Coming from a Texas-based musical family, singer Bonnie Sims began playing guitar at 12 years old, and added mandolin two years later. Her reputation as an instrumentalist grew as she played local shows with her father’s band. Her voice also blossomed into an instrument in its own right, with the kind of character and quality that lends itself in equal measures to classic country, bluegrass, folk, and blues.

After she married Taylor Sims, a gifted guitarist and singer-songwriter, Bonnie found her first and most important collaborator. More than that, he became a life-partner and soulmate in her musical journey. “We’ve been writing more together,” she says. “Although our new songs are really personal, we’re beginning to see how we make a career of this. These songs are not [fictional] stories like some writers do so well. They are straightforward and tell my own story.”

As their star has risen, Bonnie and Taylor have played festivals and venues all over our country, with a tour in Sweden to boot. They’re booked for Red Rocks this year, and we’re lucky to be able to bring them to our stage. We hope you’ll join us on Feb 11 for a great evening of acoustic music!
