Description: Slack-key guitar (Ki ho alu) is a fingerpicking style that invokes a very harmonic, melodic, mellow musical mood. In this class you will learn techniques involving alternate guitar tunings and incorporating an alternating thumb on the bass strings while picking out melodies on the treble strings using hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, and harmonics - very similar to that of country blues. A background in fingerstyle guitar is helpful, but we will start with familiar Americana tunes such as “Wildwood Flower,” giving you a chance to brush up on the basics before moving on to Hawaiian pieces.
Prerequisites: Intermediate guitar level and a basic fingerstyle background - if you’ve taken any of Adam’s fingerstyle classes, you are qualified!
What to Bring: Your own instrument, music stand, and tuner
