This class is geared toward players familiar with the basics of mandolin playing, including open and barred chords, double-picking, and rhythm techniques. Jory taught all that in our fall 2018 beginner’s class.
In this course, you’ll learn intermediate and advanced styles, including tips and tricks for playing leads and solos, and for accompanying other players. We’ll include basic music theory guidelines that will help you in improvisation and songwriting.
In case you are a little rusty, not to worry! Our jam sessions and solo playing exercises will help you review previously learned techniques, while building confidence and learning how to take your place in a band setting.
Instructor: Brendan Hannigan
This class meets Thursdays 5:00-6:00 pm
If you took our fall blues-guitar intro class, or if you have some basic blues knowledge, here’s a great opportunity to sharpen your skills and to take them to the next level. Our Blues II class is designed to build on basic skills to take that exciting next step in our blues journey.
In this course, we’ll thoroughly review the basics of blues rhythm and lead guitar playing. We’ll then expand on that knowledge with some juicy, new chord forms, some classic blues intros, endings, and transitions, and a more ambitious approach to blues soloing. This course will leave you well-equipped to play thousands of classic blues tunes like a pro.

This class meets Saturdays 5:00-6:00 pm
If you took our CAGED I class in the spring, this class is for you. The CAGED system is an easy-to-follow roadmap for your fretboard, using that trusty toolbox of open chords you already know as a guide. With CAGED, we’ll unlock a complete and systematic understanding of the guitar. Using just five basic fingering shapes, you can learn to play any chord or melody you’ll ever encounter anywhere on the fretboard. It’s a powerful, versatile tool that all proficient guitarists use; whether they know it or not!
To get the most out of this class, you’ll need some of the concepts we covered in CAGED I, and you should be able to play the basic barre chords. Join us for this fun, practical continuation of CAGED techniques.
