What it is: The Black Rose Acoustic Society's Open Stage is how we got started, and will always be the mainstay of our musical presentations. On the second and fourth Fridays of the month (except for the fourth Friday of December), we meet at the Black Forest Community Center, a big old log building built in 1929. Where it is: The Black Forest Community Center is at the corner of Shoup and Black Forest Road in Black Forest, Colorado; click here for directions. How it started: In April 1994, we started as a place where acoustic performers--young or old, beginner or advanced, folk or blues or bluegrass or whatever--could play to a listening crowd. It has grown such that many of our shows are sellouts, and amateurs and professionals alike love the appreciative, enthusiastic audience and the rustic old log building. Pat Donohue said it was "like playing inside a guitar." And, everyone loves the brownies and cookies, too. What kind of show: Our performances start at 7:00 p.m. with three open stage acts, each doing five songs, followed by a featured performer. Admission: We request a $5.00 contribution at the door, $3.00 for members, and kids 11 & under are free. Shows run from 7:00 to around 9:30 p.m. Sorry, there is no advance or online purchase of Open Stage tickets. For more information on playing on the open stage, contact Moira Theriault, email: openstage@blackroseacoustic.org or phone: 719-494-0666. For information on being booked as a featured act, email features@blackroseacoustic.org. |
