Shape note singing is one of the earliest forms of American music. Dating back to pre-Revolutionary New England, it survived into this century in the Appalachian South and Eastern Texas and has re-emerged in study groups large and small across the US, Canada and England. We sing from two shape note tune books in continuous circulation since the 1840s.
